Vortrag: „On the edge of margins: Being queer, indigenous, immigrant and antispeciesist in the US animal rights movement.“

Gerardo Tristan/Wotko ist Nahuatl, Tierrechtler, Queer-Aktivist und Gemeinschaftsbildner aus Monterrey, Mexiko mit über 30 Jahren Arbeitserfahrung in einem weiten Spektrum gesellschaftlicher Themen wie Rechte Indigener / LGBTQ / Tierrechte / Nahrungsmittelsouveränität. Von der Arbeit als Koordinator internationaler Studierendengruppen, die 2002 in den Bergen Zentralmexikos indigene Kaffeekooperativen unterstützten, über Mitarbeit an den EZLN-Friedensgesprächen 1994 war Gerardo stets involviert in existenzielle Fragen des Landes. 2015 gründete Gerardo FaunAcción, in Mexiko-Stadt. Aufgabe der Organisation ist es Aktivist_innen durch Bildung, Infrastruktur und Materialien in ihrem Aktivismus zu empowern.
Der Vortrag ist auf Englisch und dauert 45-50 Minuten. Im Anschluss gibt es die Möglichkeit zur Frage-/Antwortrunde, sowie zur Diskussion.

Gerardo Tristan/Wotko is a Nahuatl, anti-speciesist and queer activist and community organizer from Monterrey, Mexico with over 30 years of experience working on a wide range of social issue such as indigenous/lgbtq /animal rights and food justice. From working as a coordinator of an international students group volunteering in the mountains of central Mexico helping indigenous coffee cooperatives in the summer of 2002 to being a collaborator at the Zapatista’s (EZLN) peace talk process during the spring of 1994, Gerardo has always been involved in vital issues in his country. In the fall of 2015 Gerardo founded FaunAcción, in CDMX. The group’s mission is to empower activists and agents of change by providing them with education and relevant tools for their activism.
The talk is held in English and takes about 45-50 min. There will be a Q/A-part afterwards as well as opportunity to discuss the topic with the speaker.
